Signs your hot water system needs attention
Hot water systems usually give warning signs before they fail completely. If you notice any of these, it's worth getting a licensed plumber to take a look before the problem gets worse.
- Water that only runs lukewarm, or runs out much faster than it used to
- Water pooling around the base of the tank or dripping from the relief valve
- Rusty, brown or cloudy hot water coming from the taps
- A gas pilot light that keeps going out
- Rumbling, banging or popping noises from the tank
- A system that is more than 10 years old and starting to play up

Frequently asked questions
Hot water FAQs
Should I repair or replace my hot water system?
It depends on the fault and the condition of the tank. Parts like thermostats, elements and valves can often be replaced, but a leaking tank usually means the system needs replacing. We'll inspect it and give you an honest recommendation.
Why is my hot water running out quickly?
Common causes include a faulty element or thermostat, sediment build-up inside the tank, or a system that is too small for your household. We find the cause first so you only pay for the fix you need.
What type of hot water system is best for my home?
The right system depends on your household size, how much hot water you use, and whether you have gas connected. We'll talk you through the options and help you choose an energy-efficient system that suits your home and budget.
Is water leaking from the relief valve normal?
A small amount of water releasing from the valve can be normal as the tank heats up. A constant drip or a steady flow is not, and it should be checked by a licensed plumber.
